Syphilis Test Kit Change

On August 23, 2010, ViroMed Laboratories will be changing its laboratory testing for syphilis. The CAPTIA™ Syphilis (T pallidum)-G assay manufactured by Trinity Biotech will be performed instead of the RPR and FTA assays. The CAPTIA tests for antitreponemal IgG and thus enables definitive determination of exposure to T pallidum in a single step. The CAPTIA is an enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) intended for screening blood donors to exclude a history of syphilis. The package insert is available on the FDA HCT/P licensed donor screening tests web site.

Clients will be mailed letters with additional details on this change. A copy of the updated donor screening tests with approved indications for HCT/P donors will be available on the web site on August 23, 2010.
